One of the students in the fighter apprentice class with Nie Li. She is a member of the noble Winged Dragon family. One of the main motivations behind her strong determination in training is her wish to escape from an arranged a marriage between her and the Sacred Family's Shen Fei, who she does not like.[9]

Appearance and Personality

She is described as having shoulder length black hair and a slim figure.[1] The Manhua varies from this by showing her with long brownish orange hair.[2] She is a cold and anti-social beauty. Her personality is that of a serious student, unyielding woman with a strong determination.[10]

Plot

Alternate Life

Before Glory City's destruction she was silver rank demon spiritualist. When she had first become bronze rank she had became extremely ill and her body was wracked with pain for two years with Arctic disease. She was to be married into Sacred Family to Shen Fei (Shen Yue's older brother). She rebelled against her families wishes and ran away to the St. Ancestral Mountain’s Black Devil Forest before the snow wind beast attack.[11]

After that, for years she suffered great pain and torment by something that resided inside the Black Devil Forest. By the time she met Nie Li her face had become ugly to look at. She recognized him, but because she wore a mask and went by the name Xaio Ning, Nie Li did not realize who she was. Overjoyed at finding another survivor from Glory City, she swore to herself that she would protect him, which she did. They lived together for sometime until she died, leaving Nie Li once more alone.[12]

Note: The author uses two different characters for “Xiao”. The character for Ning’er’s original surname means “similar to”, whereas her alias surname means “miserable or desolate”.

Characters and Relationships Arc

Ye Ziyun:

In the past Ye Ziyun and her were close friends, but as Xiao Ning'er's family started to decline in power they saw less of each other. Now that they have entered the Holy Orchid Institute's fighter apprentice class Ye Ziyun wishes to be friends with her again, however she has a determine personality that only sees Ye Ziyun as a rival.[13]

Sacred Family:

She has a deep hatred towards the Sacred Family. Part of this is from the way they hostilely took over most of her family's property and the rest from their push to marry her to Shen Fei.[11]

Nie Li:

When Nie Li comes across her training at night, he recalls that she had gotten sick in the previous life.[14] He observes her symptoms and is able to diagnose her with Arctic Disease. One of the causes of her illness is her poor cultivation technique. Because he agrees to treat her sickness, Xiao Ning'er develops a deep trust and respect towards Nie Li and starts to fall in love with him.[9] The next day she surprises the whole class by bringing him breakfast.[15]

Gain a Cultivation Arc

Nie Li:

When Nie Li asks her of something she does not hesitate. So when he asked her to purchase all the Purple Haze Grass she could find, she immediately did so for him.[16]

Sacred Family:

Xiao Ning'er was extremely happy when Nie Li revealed the Sacred Family's inscription pattern was taken from an ancient book. This incident lowered many people opinion about the family.[17]

Shen Yue:

Shen Yue attacks Nie Li with a group, which becomes a public spectral that makes the Sacred Family look even more underhanded. Xiao Ning'er comes to Nie Li's defense with her Blue Moon Dagger and is openly concerned and caring towards him.[20]

Ye Ziyun:

Xiao Ning'er knows that Nie Li likes Ye Ziyun, even though she hasn't yet shown real interest, the fact that she also came to his defense worries Xiao Ning'er. With her competitive nature she makes it obvious that she favors Nie Li.[20]

Shen Fei:

Shen Fei is angered by her obvious affection for Nie Li.[20]

Visit the Ancient Orchid City Ruins Arc

Winged Dragon Family:

While Nie Li is away at the Ancient Orchid City Ruins she is summoned before her family's council of elders. They question her about massive quantities of purple haze grass that she recently bought. Despite the fact that this should rightfully be hers, now that purple haze grass has risen in value, they wish to hold claim to it. She tells them that she bought the grass for a friend, who she has already given it to.[21]

Xiao Ning'er's cultivation:

While defending her actions and protecting Nie Li, her intense emotions caused her soul force to jump and her soul realm underwent a transformation, taking on the physical image of wings. This is called soul forming and is extremely rare, requiring an extremely pure soul force. This also caused he soul force to immediately jump up to 3 star bronze rank. When Xiao Ning'er displayed an ability to use soul forming at only bronze rank, her position in the family raised drastically. She would also most likely be freed of the arranged marriage.[22]

Join the Alchemy Association Arc

Hu Yan Lan Ruo:

When the group returns from the Ancient Orchid City Ruins, Huyan Lanruo publicly chases after Nie Li causing several run ins with Xiao Ning'er. This sparked more and more rumors about Nie Li and his relationship with both of these notably beautiful girls.[23]

Shen Fei:

The rumors cause Shen Fei to become angrier as he is ridiculed by others in the genius class concerning Xiao Ning'er's relationship with Nie Li. His possessiveness towards her is growing.[23]

Nie Li:

While walking with Nie Li, Du Ze, Lu Piao, and the three others she is slightly jealous of their close relationship. They tease Nie Li about the rumors, but she is relieved to hear from Nie Li that he wants nothing to do with Huyan Lanruo. When Nie Li asks her about who some people that walk by are she tells him they work for the Sacred Family. Afterword she follows him to the Alchemy Association so that he can take the Master Alchemist Exam.[24]

Placement Exam Arc

Shen Fei:

At the time of the Holy Orchid Institute's yearly exam a jealous Shen Fei approached Nie Li and her. Nie Li stood up to Shen Fei in her defense to protect her from the Sacred Family. This was an extremely public confrontation that exposed that Shen Fei was pushing Xiao Ning'er into marriage with him using the power of his family. This also made it look as if Nie Li and Xiao Ning'er are dating. Xiao Ning'er declares that she will pass the Heavenly Sacred Border test in order to escape from Shen Fei.[25]

Xiao Ning'er's cultivation:

On the test she displayed an amazing soul force that exceeded the 500 limit of a primary soul crystal, causing it to explode.[4]

Ye Ziyun:

After Ye Ziyun displays a high level of progress during the exam, Xiao Ning'er realizes that Nie Li must have helped her also and feels a little resentment and competitiveness with her.[26]

Nie Li:

When it is time for her to leave for the month long holiday she gives Nie Li a parting gift of a red ruby with an intricate design on it. In Glory City a ruby represents a girl's heart.[27]

Returning Home & The Treasure Auction Arc

Xiao Ning'er returns home to her family during the holiday and is unable to see Nie Li.

Younger Generation Tournament Arc

Heavenly Sacred Border:

Xiao Ning'er enters the Heavenly Sacred Border without informing her family or Nie Li. Part of the reason that she does this is to free herself once and for all from the threats of the Sacred Family. The rest is because she wishes to impress Nie Li and prove herself worthy of him. Ye Sheng states that she is still in bronze rank.[28]

Life at the City Lord's Mansion Arc

Xiao Ning'er does not join the others in visiting Nie Li as she is still within the Heavenly Sacred Border.

Heavenly Sacred Border Arc

Ye Sheng:

Ye Sheng is rather worried about her prolonged stay within the Heavenly Sacred Border as it surpasses that of a normal person.

Ye Yan:

Within the Heavenly Sacred Border, Ning'er has been diligently training. Her powerful Lightning Dragon Technique attracts the attention of the bound spirit of a Lord Founder of Glory City, Ye Yan. He approaches her wishing to see her cultivation technique, citing that he might be able to provide some guidance. However Ning'er refuses, as it was provided to her by Nie Li and she does not wish to betray his trust.[29] Ye Yan proposes an exchange but then Nie Li tells Xiao Ning'er using Soul Separating to not listen to Ye Yan.[30]

Nie Li calls him out for trying to manipulate Xiao Ning'er and says that he will only show him the cultivation technique if the spirit shows them where the Thunder God’s Meteorite Sword is. Nie Li gets Ye Yan to bet him that he can subdue the sword. At first he offers Xiao Ning'er's cultivation technique, but Ye Yan demands instead that he wants Nie Li's Heavenly God technique if he fails, and Xiao Ning'er's technique just to show them where the sword is. If Nie Li does subdue the powerful sword then Ye Yan also agrees to follow him. After the spirit agrees Nie Li gives him Xiao Ning'er's Lightning Dragon technique.[30]

Nie Li:

Xiao Ning'er is thoroughly amused seeing Nie Li toying with the founder, and thinks to herself that it would be nice to be toyed with by him, causing her to blush. As she follows Nie Li, waves of powerful illusions and a murderous aura from the sword attack them. Though this gave Nie Li no trouble, Xiao Ning'er had difficulty until he helps her fight it off.[30]

Xiao Ning'er's Cultivation:

As they get closer to the divine weapon the powerful soul force also grows stronger causing her to immediately breakthrough into 5 star silver rank. Nie Li then hands her a god level growth rate Heavenly Lightning Sparrow demon spirit and tells her to integrate with it, which she does.[31]

Xiao Fei Fei:

Now that the sword has an owner, Ye Yan's soul will naturally dissipate unless it is bond to something else. Since he had agreed to follow Nie Li if he won the bet, Nie Li used his soul puppet blueprints to make a bird form soul puppet and attached Ye Yan's soul to it. He then renamed him Xiao Fei Fei. When he asked Xiao Ning'er what she thought of the name she agreed with it.[32]

Sacred Family & Dark Guild:

After Nie Li and her exit from the Heavenly Sacred Border, they join Du Ze and Lu Piao and head back to the City Lord's mansion. On the way a group of 27 dark clad people attack them. Xiao Ning'er is able to hold her own in the fight against some of the silver rank experts. This is her first fight with her new Heavenly Lightning Sparrow.[33]

The Ten Thousand Demonic Beast Array Arc

Nie Li:

After about a week Xiao Ning'er made a cake and went to visit Nie Li at the City Lord's Mansion. Only to find that he had moved into Ye Ziyun's courtyard. She was obviously upset at seeing that Nie Li had managed to get closer to Ye Ziyun, causing a rather awkward meeting. She noticed that Nie Li was injured, and asked him about it. He then told both her and Ye Ziyun about how Ye Zong had thoroughly spanked him and jokingly asked if either of them would like to apply the medical cream. However, Xiao Ning'er agrees to it and Ye Ziyun quickly follows. The situation was a little strange and awkward, but after both girls applied the ointment they seemed to remember their friendship. Afterwards, Xiao Ning'er came regularly to visit both Nie Li and Ye Ziyun.[34]

Ye Ziyun:

After the Dark Guild's attack is over Xiao Ning'er hears about Nie Li's condition and hurries to his side, only to find Ye Ziyun already there. They end up taking turns watching over the unconscious Nie Li. This gives them an opportunity to talk a bit. Xiao Ning'er tells Ye Ziyun that even though Nie Li likes Ye Ziyun, she will not give up and will stay by his side.[35]

Suppressing the Sacred Family Arc

Nie Li:

Three days after the attack Nie Li finally woke up. His soul realm had mostly recuperated by this point. Ye Ziyun told him about the Banquet for her elder brother and Nie Li immediately wanted to go. Xiao Ning'er went with them.[36]

Ye Han:

Xiao Ning'er is a witness to Ye Han's attempt to give Ye Ziyun the Frozen Jade Bracelet and her refusal of it, followed by Nie Li accepting it for her. [37]

Shen Fei:

When Shen Fei sees her with Nie Li, he starts his snide comments that escalate to Nie Li threatening him until he is forced to shamefully leave the banquet, and the fact that Ye Zong not only ignores Nie Li's actions, but protects him from Shen Hong. She also hears Nie Li declare that Ye Han will not be the next City Lord. If Ye Ziyun does not want the position, then Nie Li will take it himself.[37]

Huyan Lanruo:

Afterwards, she leaves with Nie Li and Ye Ziyun to escape Huyan Lanruo.[38]

The Ten Millennium Spatial Array Arc

Ye Han:

Xiao Ning'er was a witness to Ye Han and Nie Li's fight at the Holy Orchid Institute.[39] During the fight she was slightly worried about Nie Li, however by watching him fight she was able to gain insight into her own fighting abilities.[40]

Xiao Xue:

After Nie Li defeated Ye Han, she left with everyone to investigate a nearby ancient construct. Once they got close they met Xiao Xue, who was looking for Lu Piao. Xiao Ning'er seems to get along well with her and they start chatting.[41]

Demon Beasts:

As soon as Nie Li gets close, he is able to recognize the construct as the Ten Millennium Spatial Array. It did not take long for him to figure out how to enter the origin barrier that protects it by using the inscriptions on the surrounding columns. After the group enters the barrier, they find themselves in a different space, resembling an endless dark forest that is filled with dangerous demon beasts. Almost as soon as they arrive they are attacked by Scarlet Ghosts. Though not very strong individually, Nie Li knows that they tend to swarm in huge numbers and immediately told everyone to run. He then merged with his Shadow Devil and quickly struck down any Scarlet Devils that got too close.[42]

In the distance Lu Piao spotted a light that Nie Li believed to be a Netherlamp Behemoth demon beast. Everyone was growing tired and would soon be overwhelmed by the Scarlet Ghosts, so Nie Li told them to move towards the dangerous Netherlamp Behemoth. This giant demon beast scared the hoard of Scarlet Ghosts away. Even though it is a very large and slow demon beast, it uses hundreds of extremely fast and strong tongues that secrete a mild hallucination when it coils around its victims. Xiao Xue was caught by the tongues but was quickly cut free by Lu Piao. The group rushed to get out of the range of the beast while Nie Li aimed his Yin-Yang blasts at the Netherlamp Behemoth's mouth. Xiao Ning'er was caught by the tongues and rescued by Nie Li.[43]

Nie Li:

After being caught by the Netherlamp Behemoth's tongues Xiao Ning'er thought for sure that she was dead. She fell under the effects of the creature's hallucination. After Nie Li cut her free, she was in a half dream like state, and desperately clinged onto him. After a few minutes, the effects of the hallucination wore off and she embarrassingly let go of Nie Li and thanked him for saving her.[44]

Afterwards, the group continued to travel deeper into the space towards the lights of a village. Nie Li used some of the Scarlet Ghost's blood to make Blood Burst Magic Bottles. After being thrown they cause a large explosion, killing hundreds of Scarlet Ghosts and keeping them from getting close to the group. While attacking them this way, they discovered that some off these demon beasts had Blood Crystals in them. This makes the Scarlet Ghosts stronger and more aggressive. These Blood Crystals are also useful for cultivators, so they hunted the Scarlet Ghosts until they each had a crystal.[45]

Monument:

While traveling deeper into the space the group came across a strange monument that gave off a great pressure. Only Nie Li could approach it. Xiao Ning'er waited with the rest of the group while Nie Li investigated the monument.[45]

After Nie Li returned, the group continued to move towards the village. When they got close, Nie Li told them to wait so that he could check out the situation with his Shadow Devil.[46]

Silver Winged Family:

After awhile Nie Li returned to the group and they continued until they reached the village.[46] Nie Li went on ahead to scout it out and discovered the Silver Winged Family's village. After establishing a rapport with them he returned and brought the rest of the group to the village. He had promised to cure the family's hereditary illness in exchange for their safety. Though the situation made her nervous, she trusted that Nie Li would be able to safely get them out of the Silver Winged Family's grasp.[47]

Duan Juan:

Since Nie Li had asked to test the medicine on Duan Juan, he was brought to the courtyard where they were staying. Nie Li offered him a way to get revenge on the Silver Winged Family by awakening his dragon blood and forcing a jump in his abilities. Despite his warning that it will be very painful, Duan Jian readily agrees and swears loyalty to Nie Li. Nie Li then uses Acupuncture to start the process.[48]

Getting the Best of the Silver Winged Family Arc

The Group's Cultivation:

Wile staying at the Silver Winged Family's village they had access to a large number of refined Blood Crystals. Using these Xiao Ning'er was the first to break through into 1 star gold rank.[48] Nie Li and the others soon follow. Duan Juan manages to survive the dragon blood awakening process and his strength does indeed surge from his previous 3 star gold rank to nearly legend.[49]

Nie Li:

Xiao Ning'er comes to Nie Li to ask some questions about the next step on her Lightning Dragon Technique,"Death of the Dragon Roar." She has never heard of six of the meridian points, since they are hidden under the normal ones. The atmosphere becomes slightly awkward as Nie Li shows her where the points are and they recalled his time treating her Arctic Disease.[50]

Nie Li is then informed that Sikong Yi, the patriarch of the Silver Winged Family, has found the Stones of Light that they need to return back to Glory City. However, he will not let Xiao Ning'er and the others go with him and instead send five gold rank experts to escort him and Duan Jian. Before leaving, Nie Li tells Xiao Ning'er and the others that in ten days he will return for them and they must follow a specific path to a meeting point near the village.[51]

Silver Winged Family's Village:

After the ten days time, Nie Li activated the hidden Flame Explosion inscription patterns that he had previously placed around the village. While the endless series of explosions rocked the village; Du Ze, Lu Piao, Xiao Ning'er, and the others met up with Nie Li and Duan Jian at the predetermined location.[52] Rather then attempt to escape from the village like Sikong Yi would expect, Nie Li had them hide out close by in the woods. He then once again went off on his own to help the slaves at the mine.[53]

The Teleportation Array and the Old Man:

After hiding out in the woods and learning more about the thirteen families in this realm, Nie Li decides it is time to return. However, just as they are about to activate the teleportation array, a Mysterious Old Man shows up. He comes out of no where and walks by the group while staggering and mumbling incoherently. After he passes them by, Nie Li places the Stones of Light into the array in order to return to Glory City. Duan Jian decides to go with them, as he has nothing tying him to this place except his revenge.[54]

After everyone else as gone through Xiao Ning'er hesitates to follow. Even though it was dangerous she is sad to see her adventure with Nie Li end. Even still, she also steps through the array.[55]

Ye Ziyun:

When the group returns to the City Lord's Mansion Ye Ziyun rushes over to see Nie Li. It is obvious that she has been worried about him. After she sees that he has been with Xiao Ning'er this whole time the atmosphere becomes awkward.[55]

It becomes worse when the City Lord, Ye Zong, arrives and Nie Li greets him as father-in-law. When Ye Zong does not rebuff him and instead ignores him, it is almost like he is accepting him as his son-in-law. Though in her head Xiao Ning'er knows that Nie Li wants Ye Ziyun, her heart still aches when she sees that they have grown so close.[55]

The Demon Horde Attacks Arc

Demon Beasts:

She is with Nie Li and helps with the preparations for the defensive lines against the Demon Beast Horde.[56] When the last of the lines are finally breached she fights along side him and Ye Ziyun. Suddenly she notices that something is wrong with Nie Li. He seems distracted and is actions have slowed. When two 3 Star demon beasts move to attack him she rushes to throw herself in front of him and is only saved by Ye Ziyun quickly throwing up an ice defensive wall.[57]

She sees that Ye Ziyun is struggling to fight of the two 3 star gold rank demon beasts, but before she can move to help her a 5 star gold Snow Wind Behemoth Lizard moves to attack Nie Li. At the moment he is defenseless as he is trying to quickly repaire is soul realm so she must protect him.[57] Even though she is determined, she is still only a 1 star gold demon spiritualist and the Snow Wind Behemoth Lizard is able to land a heavy blow to here. It then moves to strike Nie Li. She desperately uses the last of her soul force to bind it in lightning chains and then passed out from exhaustion and her injuries. This gave him just enough time to recover. As the chains gave way he struck down the Snow Wind Behemoth Lizard with his Scarlet Flame knife.[58]

Ye Ziyun:

When she awoke Nie Li was holding her and using his soul force to treat her injuries. At this point she and Ye Ziyun retreated from the battle to heal and recover.[58] Ye Ziyun takes Xiao Ning'er to her own courtyard to recuperate and wash the blood and dirt from their bodies. This reminds her of their past friendship. Suddenly Nie Li walks in, after hurriedly running over to check on their condition, seeing both of them partially dressed.[59] He quickly apologizes and leaves.[60]

Taking down the Sacred Family Arc

Xiao Yunfeng:

Xiao Ning'er is called before her father, Xiao Yunfeng, and the elders again, however it is far different from before. They show her great respect as her talent is unprecedented in the Winged Dragon Family. Xiao Yunfeng then tries to give her the Patriarchy, but she quickly refuses. She does not want the responsibility of looking after the family and only wishes to follow Nie Li.[61]

Xiao Yi:

It was Xiao Yi that had formerly attempted to bully Xiao Ning'er about the Purple Haze Grass, so when he asked her if Nie Li could do them a favor she immediately refused.[61]

Shen Fei:

Suddenly Shen Fei bursts into the hall and confronts Xiao Ning'er about her unfaithfulness to him. He then declares that he will take her with him back to the Sacred Family. Xiao Ning'er could not hold back her anger and challenged him, saying that only if he defeated her would she go with him, and he accepted. However, Xiao Ning'er's cultivation and Heavenly Lightning Sparrow are both far above him. She easily overpowers the flames from his Scarlet Black Tiger, causing him to become heavily injured.[61]

Despite that, he still spews curses and threats at her, increasing her anger. She takes this opportunity to vent all of her hatred and continuously strikes him with bolt after bolt of lightning. She only stopped when Shen Fei begged her. Xiao Yunfeng then had him taken back to the Sacred Family. Once she clears her head Xiao Ning'er fears that her actions might have brought greater problems onto her family, and regrets she acted so hastily.[62]

Nie Li:

She quickly rushes over to Ye Ziyun's courtyard to tell Nie Li what happened and to ask his advice on what to do if the Sacred Family moves against her Winged Dragon Family, but he reassures her that the Sacred Family is in no position to do anything.[62]

A few days later he comes over to greet her and introduce himself to the rest of her family. She is very embarrassed as it is obvious to everyone that she love Nie Li very much. Nie Li even gives her father expensive elixirs, making the situation seem like Nie Li is interested in her as well.[63]

Shen Xiu:

At this time Shen Xiu can not stand the fact the Xiao Ning'er has made her nephew, Shen Fei, look bad and marches over. She immediately starts to berate Xiao Ning'er for trying to break the marriage agreement, saying she has no shame. Xiao Ning'er does not know how to reply and is thankful when Nie Li comes to her defense.[63]

Nie Hai:

After the incident is over her father takes her over to meet the patriarch of the Heavenly Marks Family, Nie Hai. Nie Hai is impressed by her and asks her to visit the Heavenly Marks Family some time in the future.[64]

Training in the Mountains Arc

Nie Li:

Xiao Ning'er receives a letter telling her that Nie Li has decided to leave Glory City in order to train and check out the Dark Guild's base. She is determined to become stronger so that she can relieve some of the burden that Nie Li feels to protect Glory City.[65]

Into the Nether Realm Arc

Xiao Ning'er's Cultivation:

While Nie Li was away from Glory City Xiao Ning'er and the rest of his friends focused on their training. They also visited the Dark Ruins and some other places to train, making their cultivation soar leaps and bounds.[66]

Yu Yan:

After Nie Li's return to Glory City, Xiao Ning'er was one of the people he gathered in Ye Ziyun's courtyard. He introduced everyone to the Spiritual God Yu Yan and explained to them who she is.[67]

The Group's Cultivation:

Nie Li then asked everyone to help in gathering demon spirits and some other materials. Two days later they returned to the yard and Nie Li uses the items to set down the Demon Spirit Devouring Technique. This technique will release more then enough soul force and power of law for all of them to raise their strength by leaps and bounds. Xiao Ning'er, and the rest of his friends, then start to cultivate within the activated array around him.[68]

Xiao Ning'er's cultivation advanced very quickly as she moved through the levels of gold rank.[69] While still cultivating in the array she noticed strange lightning energy attacking her soul realm and merged with her demon spirit to defend against it.[70] Somehow this pure energy altered the original array and formed a Soul Array between Nie Li, Xiao Ning'er, and the others. By the time she left the array she was able to become a 5 star gold rank demon spiritualist.[71] She quickly advances to 1 Star Black Gold.[72]

Duan Jian's Revenge Arc

Xiao Xue:

Now that the engagement between Nie Li and Ye Ziyun has been official, Xiao Xue visits Xiao Ning'er to see if she is alright. She gives Xiao Ning'er Enchanting Passion Powder and tells her to make Nie Li hers, but Xiao Ning'er finds the idea too embarrassing.[72]

Nie Li:

Nie Li travels with Duan Jian to the Abyss Prison Realm to complete his need for revenge. When he returns to Glory City, Nie Li gathered everyone together and tells them that they were going to leave tomorrow and head to the Nether Realm.[73]

Luqian Sha and Luqian Mo:

When the group had almost reached the entrance of the Nether Realm, Luqian Sha and Luqian Mo, appeared. They are the two high level legend rank demon beasts that have spent the last 10,000 years guarding over Yu Yan in the Black Spring. Nie Li and Yu Yan start to fight Luqian Sha while Duan Jian and Luo Ming fight Luqian Mo.[74]

Xiao Ning'er was not strong enough to help in the fight and just stands guard nearby, however she was able to provide Nie Li and Duan Jian with more soul force trough the Soul array.[74] Afterwards, everyone is shocked by the power of Nie Li's Draconic Bombs, Yu Yan apologizes for endangering everyone, and Nie Li searches the bodies.[75]

 

Exploring the Nine-Layered Deathlands Arc

Luo Xiao:

After arriving in the Nether Realm, the group heads to the entrance of the Nine-Layered Deathlands where they meet Luo Xiao.[76] They then head into the first layer of the deathlands in the search for Spiritual Origin Fruit, but get separated by a Fog of Misleading.[77]

Xiao Yu:

After exiting from the fog, Xiao Ning'er met up with Xiao Yu. He came across as a carefree and honest young man and helped her when some guys tried to hassle her, so she felt like she could trust him. When they later ran into Nie Li and Ye Ziyun she introduced him to them. It is obvious from Xiao Ning'er's reactions around Nie Li that she is in love with him, causing an awkward atmosphere around Ye Ziyun.[78]

When the continuing battle between the Zombie Jiao-dragon and Cang Ming draws near. Xiao Yu unexpectedly interfeares. He shows impressive power, scaring away Cang Ming and removing the Scarlet Pearl from its forehead. He then offers the pearl to Xiao Ning'er, but she immediately refuses. She realizes that Xiao Yu likes her and does not want to encourage him or give Nie Li the wrong impression. Instead, Nie Li shamelessly takes the scarlet pearl himself.[79]

After traveling in to the depths of the first layer of the Nine-Layered Deathlands, the group followed some Demigod rank experts to a floating tomb guarded by a large skeleton that appears to hold a piece of the shattered Divine Spark of the Death God.[79] Nie Li and Xiao Yu decide to explore the Death God's Tomb and leave Xiao Ning'er and Ye Ziyun hidden outside. To make sure that they are safe, Xiao Yu gives them a Golden Scroll.[80]

Tian Ling and Wu Yu:

While Nie Li and Xiao Yu were in the tomb, Ye Ziyun and Xiao Ning'er were discovered by Tian Ling, Wu Yu, and about thirty others.[81] The group threatened them and demanded that the girls come with them. However, their attitudes change completely after seeing the Golden Scroll. They lowered their heads and begged the girls for forgiveness for their actions. Then they quickly left when the girls told them to go. This powerful reaction startled Xiao Ning'er as she realized the there was more to Xiao Yu then she originally thought.[82]

Ye Ziyun:

After facing the situation together. Xiao Ning'er felt that she was once again closer to Ye Ziyun, as she had been when they were children.[82] Even still, Xiao Ning'er was upfront and clear about her feelings for Nie Li. She did not blame or hate Ye Ziyun, but at the same time she was not giving up.[81]

Nie Li:

After Nie Li returns alone from the tomb they continued to search for the other members of their group.[83] Yu Yan shows up and gives Nie Li the Soul Mirror that she found. Nie Li also gives Xiao Ning'er the Scarlet Pearl from the Zombie Jiao-dragon. She was so happy to receive something from Nie Li that she completely ignored the fact that it had been offered to her first by Xiao Yu.[84]

After two more days wandering the deathlands, everyone was finally reunited. At this time they had found eleven Spiritual Origin Fruits and decided to return back to the Jade Seal Family's camp at the entrance. They each then ate a fruit and began to cultivate, becoming very close to legend rank. Xiao Ning'er unexpectedly shows up at Nie Li's tent with a bowl of soup. She is so nervous that she quickly spills the soup. She quickly becomes embarrassed when she realizes the her top has become see-through after getting wet and leaves. Xiao Ning'er is upset and mad that she listened to Xiao Yue. It is possible that the soup might have had some of the Enchanting Passion Powder that Xiao Yue gave her in it.[84]

The Master of Nether's Disciple Arc

Luo Xiao:

When the door to the seventh layer of the Nine-Layered Deathlands opened, a crowed of hundreds of thousands of demigod, legend, and black gold rank experts rushed through. Xiao Ning'er was there when Luo Xiao asked Nie Li to be careful and suggested that they enter towards the back of the line.[85]

Lord of Nether's servants:

After entering the seventh layer, a group of powerful cultivators appeared and announced the first test.[85] A water ball formed in front of each person. It was a test of soul force control called the Sphere of Reverse Images. To pass the test, one must feed the sphere soul force through small threads, making it grow at least one foot in diameter. However, the visible threads are fake. Nie li tells his friends that to pass the test they need to sense out the true threads. Xiao Ning'er was able to make the sphere grow to five feet, passing the test.[86]

Once all those that passed were teleported to the eight layer, the Lord of Nether's servants told them that the second test would take place in the nearby Black Infernal Tower. Inside that tower are supreme black flames and all kinds of demon beasts. Although the demon beasts have been chained, they can still discharge powerful energy. They are to cultivate inside that environment for ten days. Those who can reach the Anatta Mental State of cultivation will have passed the test.[86]

The black flames can attack a person's soul realm directly. Xiao Ning'er watched as several experts who did not have a strong enough soul, crippled their cultivation trying to force their was in. As they approached, Nie Li cautiously asked if everyone was alright. Because of their stronger then normal souls, Xiao Ning'er, along with everyone else, said that they were fine.[87]

Duan Jian:

After entering the tower, Duan Jian's body ignited in black flames. Though it resembled what had happened to the cultivators whose soul were too weak, in actuality it was the exact opposite. Duan Jian's Black dragon body was so compatible with the black flames that it was absorbing them and strengthening his soul realm on its own.[87]

Xiao Ning'er's Cultivation:

The group continued up to the second floor, where the pressure felt by the black flames was far greater. Since Duan Jian could easily cultivate by absorbing the flames without even trying, he instead stood guard to protect everyone. Xiao Ning'er and the rest sat down and began to cultivate. She slowly absorbed the black flames, strengthening her body and soul.[87] As Nie Li's soul realm surged and broke through into Legend rank. The majestic wave of profound law energy flowed through the soul array, overwhelming her and causing her to jump directly to 2 star legend rank.[6]

Celestial Qilin:

Afterward the group also headed up to the third floor, where they found a terrifyingly powerful Celestial Qilin chained up.[6] Nie Li attempted to bargain with the demon beast in order to have it willingly integrate with Du Ze. The reason was because the Celestial Qilin would be the perfect demon spirit match for Du Ze's Attribute and Form. When the creature refused, Nie Li used some of Duan Jian's blood, which contains the energy from the powerful black flames, to form an inscription pattern around it. This pattern attracted more of the black flames to this location in the tower.[88]

After cursing and threatening each other, Nie Li and the Celestial Qilin finally seemed to come to an agreement. Nie Li stopped the black flame inscription pattern in exchange for some of the Celestial Qilin's blood. However, the demon beast tossed the basin of his blood short in the hopes of tricking Nie Li into coming close enough that he could attack him.[89] Nie Li first merged with his Fanged Panda and threw a Yin Yang Blast and Draconic Bombs at the Celestial Qilin, then he switched to his Shadow Devil. While the others distracted it with various types of attacks Nie Li was able to sneak close enough to grab the basin of blood and toss it to Du Ze. In a rage the Celestial Qilin rained dozens of lightning strikes at him. However, Nie Li simply used his void form to avoid them and make his way outside the reach of the demon beast.[90]

Now that he had its blood, Nie Li drew an array to restrained the Celestial Qilin so that it could not attack them. He then drew a Soul Seal to transform the demon beast's body and integrate it with Du Ze's soul Realm. The seal can only be removed by Du Ze, insuring that the Celestial Qilin can not harm him, and Du Ze promised to free him after fifty years.[90]

Nie Li:

After advancing up to the fourth floor of the tower Xiao Ning'er could not stand the pressure from the black flames to advance higher. Along with everyone else in the group besides Nie Li and Yu Yan, she stayed to cultivate on this floor.[91]

Xiao Yu and the Lord of Nether:

After the test ended, Xiao Ning'er and everyone else were teleported to the ninth layer. Once there, she was reunited with Xiao Yu and met the Lord of Nether as well as the other six ambassadors.[92] Xiao Yu told her that he is actually the adopted child of the Lord of Nether. The Lord of Nether then explained that they had all been chosen by one of the ambassadors as a disciple and will be heading to the Draconic Ruins Realm in three months to train. Once there they will not be able to return for five years. They must also form a Soul Seal with their new master to insure loyalty, as betrayal was considered a capital offense. Xiao Ning'er, Ye Ziyun, and Xiao Xue ended up forming a soul seal with Ling Yun from the Heavenly Note Sect.[8]

Leaving for the Draconic Ruins Realm Arc

Nie Li:

Before heading back to Glory City to say goodbye, Nie Li asked for everyone to go with him to the Endless Desert in search of the Desert Palace.[8] After entering the desert, both Nie Li and Ye Ziyun becomes lost in thought, and Ye Ziyun suddenly slaps Nie Li. When Xiao Ning'er asks Nie Li if they are alright, he replies by asking if she believes in past lives. She tells him that she does. Sometimes she gets a strange sense of Déjà vu and for a long time now, she has had strange nightmares of her living in a dark forest full of terror and pain until being recused by a youth.[93]

After searching for days for the mysterious Desert Palace. Nie Li entered a profound trance-like state which lead them to some ancient ruins that had long since been destroyed. Nie Li seemed to be confused and started to walk among the ruins when he suddenly fell unconscious. The group returned to Glory City where Nie Li remained in this coma for about a month. During this time, either Ye Ziyun or Xiao Ning'er remained at his side continuously, watching over him and trying to help him recover.[94] When Nie Li woke up, she was so relieved that she immediately hugged him.[95]

Demon Lord:

Suddenly, the loud sounds of a nearby fight drew their attention.[95] They found the Demon Lord attacking Ye Mo, destroying many of the buildings in the City Lord's Mansion.[96] Xiao Ning'er joined Nie Li, Ye Zong, and the others in supporting Ye Mo in suppressing the Demon Lord. However, after Nie Li started to attack with the Thunder God’s Meteorite Sword, the Demon Lord felt danger and changed his tactics. Instead of facing it head on, he evaded its strike and charged in close. He grabbed Ye Zong and overpowered him with the power of Hell.[96]

Ye Zong:

They were only able to helplessly watch as Ye Zong bravely continued to strike out at the Demon Lord, only to have his right arm brutally ripped off.[96] The Demon Lord again demanded the Demon Spirit Stone that Ye Mo held, and proceeded to rip off Ye Zong's other arm. With no other way to save is son's life, Ye Mo threw the demon spirit stone to the Demon Lord. However, the Demon Lord then pierced through Ye Zong's chest, fatally wounding him. Knowing that his end was near, Ye Zong activated the Snow Wind Family's self destruction technique, turning himself to ice. This destroyed his soul, but allowed him to cause heavy damages to the Demon Lord as well.[97]

Xiao Ning'er then watched as Nie Li executed a secret technique that quickly raised his strength and struck out at the Demon Lord. Everyone hastily moved out of the way as wave after wave of terrifying lightning energy struck the Demon Lord, destroying his arms, legs, and even his head. However, his life was saved by a Draconic Ruins Realm artifact armor as he quickly flew away.[97] The whole of Glory City grieved at the loss of their City Lord, while Xiao Ning'er tried her best to be there for Nie Li and Ye Ziyun.[98]

Nie Li:

After a month they headed back to the Nine-Layered Deathlands, as it was time to separate and follow their individual masters into the Draconic Ruins Realm. Xiao Ning'er tearfully hugged him and said goodbye. She told him that she had another dream. She saw herself disfigured and stuck in one endless battle after another until she met him. She then stood by his side and dedicated her life to him until she died. She promised to become stronger and stay by his side.[12]

Abilities and Equipment

Xiao Ning'er has a strong start to cultivation with a green soul realm, and a soul force of 78.[1]

When her soul realm is tested, she has the rare Winged Dragon form with Wind Lightning attribute. This form alone would make her a peerless talent. She receives the Lightning Dragon Technique.[99] She was able to almost immediately rise to 1 star bronze rank after using the technique[19].

During a moment of intense emotions her soul force jumped from 105 to 362. At the same time her soul realm underwent a transformation, taking on the physical image of wings. This is called soul forming and is extremely rare, requiring an extremely pure soul force.[22]

A month later at the Holy Orchid Institute's annual exam she displays an amazing soul force that exceeded the 500 limit of a primary soul crystal, causing it to explode.[4]

After entering the Heavenly Sacred Border Xiao Ning'er's cultivation has already broken through to Silver rank, however we do not know by how much. As she approaches the divine Thunder God’s Meteorite Sword its powerful soul force also grows stronger causing her to immediately break through into 5 star silver rank. Nie Li then hands her a god level growth rate Heavenly Lightning Sparrow demon spirit and tells her to integrate with it, which she does.[31]

During the trip into the Ten Millennium Spatial Array, Nie Li came across a large amount of Blood Crystals in the Silver Winged Family's village. With the help of the crystals, Xiao Ning'er was the first to break into 1 Star Gold rank.[100]

Through her own training as well as the Demon Spirit Devouring Technique, Xiao Ning'er reaches 5 star gold rank.[71] She then quickly advances into 1 Star Black Gold rank.[72]

During the trip to the Nether Realm, everyone's cultivation quickly advanced with the assistance of the Soul Array, reaching 4 Star Black Gold rank. After entering the Nine-Layered Deathlands, Xia Ning'er ate one of the Spiritual Origin Fruit which raised her cultivation near to legend rank.[84]

While participating in the Lord of Nether's Disciple Selection, she entered the Black Infernal Tower. Xiao Ning'er was able to slowly absorbed the black flames, strengthening her body and soul.[87] When Nie Li's soul realm surged and broke through into Legend rank. The majestic wave of profound law energy flowed through the soul array, overwhelming her and causing her to jump directly to 2 star legend rank.[6]
